Belgian third-party logistics (3PL) supplier Kris De Leeneer (KDL) has installed a Movu Robotics Atlas pallet shuttle system that can manage up to 11,000 pallet movements per week.
According to Movu, the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) is the first Atlas system the company has supplied to the 3PL market.
The system consists of 10 tiers of Atlas racks, 28 m high, with a footprint of 60 m x 100 m, and can accommodate 45,000 locations.
Pallets are moved and organized within the racks by 20 Movu Atlas pallet shuttles.
These self-powered robot carriers transport pallets on the rails of the storage lanes of the racks in which they are housed, as well as the rails of the main lanes that cross the storage lanes.
Movu WES software manages shuttle traffic within the rack and issues orders from KDL’s warehouse management system.
Movu also offers an app that allows authorized operators to control the system from their smartphones.
Kris De Leeneer, Chief Executive Officer of KDL, said: “When we decided to implement automation in our new distribution center and looked at other solutions, we were drawn to the flexibility offered by Movu’s Atlas system.
“This not only allows us to optimize floor space, but also allows us to process more pallets than we could previously do by hand.
“Additionally, atlas is an efficient and scalable automated warehouse solution that can be adapted to our requirements due to its modularity and ability to add shuttles as needed.”
