Why fly to Naples?
Naples is much closer to the Amalfi Coast than Rome. From Naples’ airport, Sorrento is just a 1 hour 10 minute drive, Amalfi 1 hour 15 minutes and Positano 1 hour 20 minutes.
From Rome airport, 3.5-4 hours Drive to the Amalfi Coast. Another time-consuming option is to take a train from Rome to Naples, then from Naples to a train to Sorrento, and continue by car if your final destination is one of the small towns on the Amalfi Coast.

Which cities have flights to Naples?
Three U.S. airlines are offering nonstop flights to Naples from three different cities this summer.
delta airlines will fly from New York (JFK) It will fly to Naples for the first time on May 23, 2024. Flights will continue daily through October.
united airlines We will reinstate seasonal direct flights from ~. Newark (EWR) I’m going to Naples this summer. However, due to increased demand, the airline began operations earlier this year, and the two-daily flight is scheduled to begin on April 15, 2024 and continue until the end of September.

When is the best time to travel?
Although the most popular time to visit the Amalfi Coast is summer, the best time to go is actually very early in the season or very late in the season.
July and August are the busiest, most expensive, and hottest months to visit.
May and late September are the best times to travel, as there are fewer crowds, cheaper hotel prices, and better weather.
Although May usually tends to be quieter, September is becoming more popular as it is warm enough to swim in the sea as the water is warmed by the sun’s heat throughout the summer. .
Amalfi Coast Alternatives
The Amalfi Coast is an iconic place and definitely worth a visit, but you might not want to spend your entire holiday there (especially if you’re on a budget!).
In fact, there are some great alternatives to the Amalfi Coast just outside Naples.
Ischia is my favorite Italian hidden gem destination. Although always very popular among Italians, it is still unknown to the majority of American tourists.
This island is just an hour’s ferry ride from Naples and is a true paradise. Procida, smaller than Ischia and incredibly charming, is another option. It is only 40 minutes by ferry from Naples.
What if you’re on a budget? Stay in Naples! Many travelers skip the city, but it’s actually a great place to stay if you’re on a budget.
Yes, it’s gritty and chaotic, but there’s a lot to love underneath.
Naples is also a great place to stay if you want to take day trips around the Amalfi Coast and islands.
