Three people arrested for illegally growing marijuana in China, Maine

CHINA, Maine — Three people were arrested over the weekend in connection with an illegal marijuana cultivation operation in China, Maine.

Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputies received information Saturday about a person who was allegedly being held against his will at a home on Route 3 in China Town.

A news release from the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that officers made contact with three people who were not in distress or being held against their will on Route 1144-3. .

“Deputy Boudreau received permission to search the first floor area below the residential area,” the release states. “The lower area contained five rooms, three of which were split horizontally into an upper and lower room, and was confirmed to be an unlicensed commercial cannabis cultivation operation.”

According to the release, the three were arrested on suspicion of trafficking in Class B Schedule Z drugs.

Deputies said 970 mature plants and several seedlings were seized from the home.

The Maine Attorney General’s Office and the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy assisted in this case.

The three people arrested were identified as 36-year-old Changgeng Chen, 41-year-old Bing Xu, and 43-year-old Aiqin Chen.
