Spain: Friends from the South Bay (Mario and Emma Ramirez, Elida Gonzalez and Lupe Aguilar from San Jose, Alice Lopez from Gilroy, and Sofia Martinez from Morgan Hill) will be traveling from Madrid for a trip to Spain in late September. I accompanied him to Barcelona. “The food was amazing!” Emma says. “Every city we toured was fun. There’s a lot of history and buildings built a long time ago are still standing.” The group visited Madrid’s bullring, one of the largest in the world (pictured), and the mountains near Barcelona. I visited Montserrat, a Benedictine retreat. “Montserrat is a must-see,” says Emma.
Travel tips: “Watching flamenco dancing is a must while in Spain. They dance with so much emotion and their dances tell a story. Lunch tips we learned include: salad, paella, dessert, wine or Ask for a three-course meal, including one of the sodas, for less than 16 euros.”
