The draw for the fourth season of the UEFA Nations League was held in Paris on Thursday.
France, who won the second edition of the 2021 tournament, was placed in Group A2 along with Italy, Belgium and Israel.
Holders Spain were placed in Group A4 with Denmark, Switzerland and Serbia.
The other group in the top tier, A1, consists of Croatia, Portugal, Poland and Scotland.
Meanwhile, Group A3 will feature the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
England, who were relegated last season, will be competing in League B.
To secure a direct return to League A, the Three Lions must finish first in Group B2 ahead of Finland, Greece and the Republic of Ireland.
However, the format change means England could still finish second but win promotion by defeating League A’s third-placed team in a two-legged play-off.

The new format also includes the League A quarter-finals. Previous seasons have progressed directly from the group phase to the semi-finals.
Teams qualify for the quarterfinals by finishing first or second in their League A group.
These quarter-finals will be played over two matches, with the four winners qualifying for the 2025 UEFA Nations League Final. The finals will be held in the same format as previous years.
Group matches will be held in three international slots in September, October and November in 2024.
All promotion/relegation play-offs and League A quarter-finals will then be held in March 2025.
The final tournament will be held in June and will be hosted by one of the four qualifying countries.
