KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Despite a seven-hour time difference, Kansas City Chiefs fans from Wichita vacationing in Spain were able to watch the Chiefs vs. Bills game last weekend and will be hosting the AFC Champions this Sunday. A game with views of palm trees and the Mediterranean Sea, which is also scheduled to be watched at Ship.

During his visit to Spain, Sean Rose also encountered the international Chiefs kingdom, complete with uniformed Spanish fans and Chiefs flags flying.

Rose originally traveled to Europe with his girlfriend to visit his sister in Hamburg, Germany, for Christmas. Eventually, they were joined by their son, who had flown in from Wichita, and their daughter, who is earning a degree in French in France. The group decides to stay in Europe as Rose’s girlfriend is graduating in Spain, but Rose discovers similarities to Kansas City there.

“I was a little surprised,” Rose said. “So, as I was driving into Seville, Spain, I saw a sign that said ‘Kansas City Avenue.’ I feel like that’s not Spanish at all. And then there was another sign, and another sign. After all, it was a huge street, and the name had been changed to “Kansas City Avenue.” It turns out that’ in Spain. “

Seville, Spain, is a sister city to Kansas City, Missouri, which imitated the style of Seville’s Plaza de España when designing and building the County Club Plaza in 1922. Plaza Espanya was completed a few years later in 1929.

But the similarities don’t end there. When Rhodes checked into a hotel in Seville, he learned that the concierge was a Chiefs fan.

“She’s like, ‘Oh, we’re big Chiefs fans,'” Rose said. “She started pulling out pictures of babies, like 1-year-old babies, wearing Chiefs jerseys. There are a lot of fans and they watch the games whenever they have time.” ”

Rose recalled staying up until 3 a.m. to watch the Chiefs-Bills game in Spain on Jan. 21.

“And sometimes you’d see Kansas City, Chiefs flags flying in Seville. It was just weird,” he said.

Rose said that although he did not get to experience game day in Seville, he knew Seville fans were planning to attend the AFC Championship Game.

“The Chiefs kingdom has expanded. What do you think? It’s a lot of fun,” he said.

However, the Chiefs kingdom has expanded to other parts of Europe as well.

Rose described an encounter he had while wearing Travis Kelce’s jersey in Germany. “I was in Hamburg, Germany, and this 23-year-old girl came up to me and said, ‘I have that jersey too.'” And I said, “Which one? ?”It was that kind of feeling. (She replied), “One of those shirts is Taylor Swift’s boyfriend’s shirt.”

On Sunday, Rose and her family plan to watch the AFC Championship Game at 9 p.m. Spanish time while enjoying a Spanish-style game day meal.

“And there’s beer,” he said.
