Worldcoin, founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has expanded its identity verification services to Singapore after suspending operations in India. The company announced in a blog post that its Scan Orb is now available in five locations across the city-state.
The expansion of Worldcoin’s iris scanning technology comes amid a broader effort to increase Worldcoin’s global presence. At this time, certified locations are available in 11 countries, including the United States. However, the project faces challenges in some areas. For example, Kenyan authorities suspended WorldCoin’s operations citing privacy concerns.
WorldCoin began its identity verification process in 2021, and by the time of its official launch in July 2023, more than 2 million people had registered. The company claims that more than 5 million people have created accounts using their IDs, which is about 0.06% of the world’s population.

Sam Altman, co-founder and CEO of OpenAI, is the creator of Worldcoin. He was briefly removed from his position at OpenAI in November, leading to his resignation over protests from his colleagues. Mr. Altman was reinstated 12 days later.
The Worldcoin Orb is a helmet-shaped device used by customers to verify their identity. To use it, users will need to download a wallet compatible with her Worldcoin app and visit her Orb location to perform an eyeball scan as part of the identity verification process.
Despite the recent service outages in India, Brazil, and France and the resulting decline in the price of WLD token, World Coin is on track for success in 2023 with over 5 million users of the World app and over 30 million transactions. I think it was the year of The company plans to continue expanding, targeting cities in Spain, Germany, Chile, Argentina, and Japan.
“Last week, Seville and Bilbao joined the list of cities offering global ID verification across Spain, from Malaga to Mallorca to Madrid. Meanwhile, new launches in Cologne and Leipzig mean Orbs will be installed “The list of German cities now includes four cities (including Berlin and Nuremberg),” the statement said.
Launched in July, Worldcoin aims to build an inclusive digital economy by providing secure, privacy-enhanced digital authentication of a user’s uniqueness and humanity through World ID. The World ID is stored on the user’s mobile phone, and the World App has gained his 4.1 million users worldwide, 2.4 million of whom hold his Orb-verified World ID.
Nevertheless, WorldCoin’s approach to identity verification using biometric data has sparked a debate about privacy and the ethical use of personal information in the technology and cryptocurrency space.
