Danish broadcaster DR has confirmed that the country will not be returning to Junior Eurovision in 2024.
DR’s head of children, Marlene Boel, said the broadcaster’s vision was not in line with Junior Eurovision’s values.
We are deeply involved in contests for young MGP viewers. However, we have decided to analyze competition and its development in the coming years and, without participating in international competition, we would like to bring competition closer to us and our core values. Masu. [Junior Eurovision].
When asked about changes to the competition since 2006, when Denmark withdrew from Junior Eurovision, Boel added:
I know that they have been developing European contests for many years, but in this case we still do not want to participate in the European version.
Denmark participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest from 2003 to 2005, with the first contest held in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. The country has never finished outside the top five. Their best result is the 2005 entry “Shake Shake Shake” performed by Nikolai Kielstrup. He finished in 4th place with 121 points.
Junior Eurovision 2024
France’s Zoe Crojour won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Nice, France with 228 points. She topped both the jury vote and the online vote, giving France her third win and extending her back-to-back wins to 2022. The country that will host the 2024 contest has not yet been announced.
