Denmark Shire councilors will vote next week on whether to support final concept plans to transform Berridge Park into a vibrant youth precinct.

An officer’s report prepared for the council said the total cost of implementing the plan was estimated at $4.4 million, and the council had given the chief executive authority to explore and apply for potential funding opportunities. is recommended to be given.

The final concept attached to the meeting agenda includes dividing the development of the school district into five phases.

The first phase will see the development of a central skatepark, followed by the development of a comprehensive play space to the north-west of the skatepark in a second phase, a barbecue and shelter area in a third phase, and a multi-court area and toilets in a fourth phase. Blocks will be developed. As a final step.

Plans show the precinct will be developed primarily near the existing car park after the removal of structures that shire officials said were “outdated” and showing “signs of age” .

The northern area of Berridge Park, near the South Coast Highway bridge, remains largely untouched from the concept plan, which focused on an area described by shire officials as “close to the back of the house”.

Last year, there were several opportunities for the community to help shape the plan, including surveys, drop-in sessions, and design workshops.

Enhancing the park as a youth precinct was identified as a priority in Denmark’s Vision for 2028, outlined in the Danish Sports Master Plan 2019 and the Strategic Community Plan 2033 .

The council is scheduled to vote on whether to adopt the final concept at Tuesday’s regular meeting.
