The paper used a simple test. Drive each car under the coldest conditions until it stops working. The results showed that some models, including the Volkswagen ID.7, switched to battery-saving features when the battery was low, such as turning off heating throughout the cabin. In a somewhat surprising turn of events, the Hyundai Kona Electric stalled completely at 7% battery level while going uphill, and although it eventually restarted, it nearly stalled at 4%.
“Despite the impact of the severe cold, even in severe weather some vehicles were able to assess battery charge very well and some vehicles stopped unexpectedly,” he said. Lauri Atiainen.
However, after driving more than 300 km (186 miles) in -20°C temperatures, the Tesla Model 3 continued to run until its battery ran out.
