Elisa partners with Voimatel to expand Finland's fiber optic network
Finnish telecommunications operator Elisa announced that it has reached an agreement with data and power grid network provider Voimatel to build a fiber optic network and strengthen its fiber optic infrastructure. The €40 million contract will facilitate the rollout of a fiber optic network to serve small households as part of Elisa’s investments over the next few years.

Fiber optic expansion in Finland

Elisa said this week that high-speed internet connections are reaching more and more homes as Finland continues to strengthen its fiber-optic network in hundreds of regions across the country. Customers can sign up for a fiber optic (FTTH) connection at any stage: at the sales stage, at the start of construction, or after the rollout of the fiber optic network in the area is complete.

“5G and fiber optics are currently the preferred options for home connectivity among Finns, and we will continue to systematically expand both of these networks. Elisa said its fiber optic connections are available in more than one million households and commercial apartments in Finland. Meanwhile, Elisa’s 5G network covers more than 92% of her homes in Finland, giving her another option for her internet service at home.

According to reports telecom talk Elisa Finland acquired electricity company Elenia’s fiber optic network of approximately 8,000 premises in December 2023 to strengthen its existing infrastructure.
