Queen Mary made her first solo appearance since winning the title last night as she watched Denmark win silver at the European Handball Championships.
The 51-year-old royal traveled to Cologne, Germany, to cheer on the men’s team on the final day of the 18-day tournament.
The mother-of-four, who became queen after her mother-in-law’s abdication earlier this month, opted for a smart tailored blazer for the occasion.
The monarch wore a burgundy blazer with a white silk shirt and smart black trousers.
Mary kept her jewelry to a minimum, opting for dangling diamond earrings and a dainty pendant necklace.
The Queen of Denmark styled her long brown hair in loose waves and chose a natural makeup look consisting of a sparkling base and pale pink lipstick for the outing.
The royal, who is said to be “all in on athletics,” completed her ensemble with burgundy glasses that perfectly matched her blazer.
Denmark, the reigning world champions, lost the title to France last night, losing 33-31 in extra time.
During the match, the Queen happily posed for a photo from the Royal Box, which was uploaded to Instagram.
The caption reads, “It was a very close game. This photo was taken just before the start of the second half.
“What a final… Denmark fought well. I was nervous watching them up close. Everyone’s efforts at the European Championships were amazing.
“Congratulations on winning the silver medal.”
And the caption was signed, “Her Majesty the Queen.”
Queen Mary was photographed happily waving to the crowd during the match and then walking onto the court to congratulate the players.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier was also present at the Royal Family and presented the medal.
The Queen was also seen shaking hands with Danish handball coach Nikolaj Jacobsen at the ceremony.
Handball was invested in 1897 by Danish school teachers RN Ernst and Holger Nielsen.
The sport was introduced to the Olympics in 1972, and the women’s team has won more gold medals than any other country.
Earlier this month, Queen Mary’s husband King Frederick published a new book outlining his plans for his reign, but it also included very personal insights into his married life.
Already a bestseller in Denmark, the book delves into Frederick’s childhood and his complicated relationship with his late father, Prince Henrik, who passed away in 2018.
In addition to this, the monarch has also given an insight into his marriage to Queen Mary and their “stable life”.
In one excerpt, Frederic reveals that his wife of 20 years criticized him for what he learned from his “patriarchal” father when he was young.
In portraying a happily married life, Frederic glosses over recent rumors of an affair that have been flying around since photos surfaced of him enjoying a night out in Madrid with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova.
Author Jens Andersen admitted to local media that he and King Frederik spent 18 months writing the book.
The final draft was sent to the publisher on New Year’s Eve, the same day Queen Margrethe announced her plans to abdicate for the first time in 52 years.
