Jaromir Jagr receives at least one vote in Finland’s general election

Must read

Could Jaromir Jagr — one of the greatest hockey players of all time, throw his name into the political arena?

Who knows? Whether he does or not, he already has one vote.

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you this, because you probably had it circled on your calendar, but there was a presidential election in Finland this week. Former Prime Minister Alexander Stubb will now face ex-Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto in a run-off, but enough about them.

No offense to Finland but the only Finnish politicians I know are the one president who looked like Conan O’Brien and the prime minister one who liked to party.

This is to say that I haven’t brushed up on Finnish politics in a minute (I know, I’ve gotten lazy) so I don’t know how either candidate is when it comes to the issues facing the Fins.

Heck, I don’t even know what that is. I can’t help but think that saunas and reindeer are somehow related.

But educated Finnish voters had little interest in Stubb and Haavisto, and decided to exercise their democratic powers and give Jaromir Jagr a write-in vote.

I’d love to see Jarmore Juggle’s Cinderella run for president of Finland, but that’s not going to happen. Just like here in the United States, you have to be a natural-born citizen to be president of Finland.

Jagr is, of course, from the Czech Republic.

Missing President Jaromir Jagr is a loss for Finland

But I see it as a defeat for Finland. Jagr is still playing professional hockey at the age of 51. As you might expect, he is known for being obsessed with his training and practice habits. He is extremely focused on reaching the top of his profession and has continued to do so for the better part of his 30 years.

Isn’t that what you should want for your president? Is there anyone who would carry out the duties of president with the tireless work ethic of a hockey legend?

Of course, that’s the case, and who better to do that than a hockey legend like Jaromir Jagr?

Rules are rules, so we’ll never see President Jagr…at least not in Finland.

Czech Republic, what you do…if you have a president.
