DOE and Danish Innovation Fund Announce Opportunity to Promote Floating Offshore Wind Energy

Must read

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Wind Energy Technology Office (WETO) and the Danish Innovation Fund have awarded a $4.2 million opportunity to advance floating offshore wind systems toward cost-effective commercialization and large-scale deployment. Announced.

This announcement builds on the 2021 Memorandum of Understanding between the DOE, the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science, the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities, and the Danish Innovation Fund.

This proposed funding will focus on research to improve mooring techniques and methods and promote bilateral cooperation between countries.

“Climate change cannot be solved by one good idea, one company or one country alone,” says Anders Eldrup, chairman of the Innovation Fund Denmark.

“This will require many new initiatives and collaborations in different sectors pointing in the same direction. Floating offshore wind technology has great potential to contribute to the green transition. We are passionate about investing in lasting green research and innovation in Denmark and the U.S. and are excited about the opportunity to work together to find new solutions for the Danish and U.S. research and innovation environments.”

DOE and the Danish Innovation Fund expect to seek proposals that include addressing mooring, cabling, and compatibility strategies for coexistence. Mass production of moorings. New station maintenance system. Mooring monitoring and inspection techniques.

WETO and the Danish Innovation Fund are each contributing about $2 million. The implementation team must include both U.S. and Danish organizations collaborating on each awarded project. U.S. applicants must include institutions that serve ethnic minorities and may include other U.S. participants. Four or more awards are expected.

It is scheduled to be released this spring on this occasion.
