Ireland full-back Hugo Keenan is a major doubt for the Six Nations v Wales game after sustaining a knee injury against Italy.

Ireland’s star full-back Hugo Keenan is a serious injury doubt for Saturday’s Six Nations third leg against Wales in Dublin due to a knee problem.

Keenan is a key figure in Andy Farrell’s team, who are aiming for a second successive Grand Slam after winning their opening games over France and Italy and winning it all in 2023.

The 27-year-old was injured in the Azzurri attack and was substituted in the 55th minute. Keenan did not train over the weekend.

Ireland have yet to comment publicly on his health.

However, there are concerns that the returning Leinster player could be out for several weeks, which could mean he misses the trip to Twickenham for Round 4 against England on March 9.

Ireland are far from a one-man team, but the fact that Keenan has started 32 of Ireland’s last 36 Tests shows his importance to Ireland.

If the British & Irish Lions tour takes place tomorrow, Keenan or England’s Freddie Steward are likely to be considered as a starting No. 15.

Ireland head coach Farrell may have to replace a key man as Keenan worries about facing Wales, who have lost two games in the 2024 Championship to Scotland and England so far.

James Lowe or Jordan Larmour could be options.
