Madonna di Campiglio is a chic mountain resort in northeastern Italy, nestled along a shallow valley beneath the mighty Dolomites mountains of the Trentino region.
In 1911, a group of Englishmen made the first attempt to ski down the mountain above Madonna di Campiglio. At that time, it was crowded with pedestrians in the summer, but it was closed to visitors in the winter.
They walked up Mount Spinale and then skied down. Though ridiculed in the local press, these humble beginnings laid the foundation for great skiing. Today, Spinale His Mountain is equipped with a cabin lift, his state-of-the-art six-seater chairlift with heated seats, a cover, and four other chairlifts. Others located above the town are connected to four ski resorts.

The mountains of the Brenta Dolomites tower above the Madonna di Campiglio, four of which offer excellent skiing during the winter. The well-maintained slopes above the town are accessed by a combined system of cabins and chairlifts.
You can access the entire ski area above Madonna di Campiglio by riding one of the four cabin lifts that rise from town: Cinque Laghi, Pradalago, Groste, and Spinale. The resort is also connected by lift to three of his other ski resorts: Pinzolo, Marilleva and Folgarida. Together they are known as ski areas and offer a total of 156 interconnected runs. It is the largest ski resort in Trentino.

Other winter sports can also be enjoyed in and around Madonna di Campiglio. There is a large snowboarding park at the top of the Groste ski area. The cross-country ski center on the outskirts of town has three graded circuits.
The lake in the center of town becomes an ice skating rink during the winter. It is also used as the venue for the Winter Marathon, with hundreds of veteran cars arriving here to take part in a race around the frozen lake, an annual event that culminates in the final stage. Snowshoe walking and husky sledding are also popular activities. If you’re feeling more adventurous, paragliding is also available.
Trento, the capital of Trentino, is served by local bus lines and offers an interesting day out for those looking for a ski break. This beautiful Tyrolean town is home to Castello. del buonconsiglio and Muse, a fascinating museum about mountain life and local history.

Madonna di Campiglio has a number of excellent 4-star hotels both in the town center and on the outskirts, but there are also some comfortable B&B accommodation and self-catering apartments available.
Although Hotel Lorenzetti is located on the outskirts of town, a regular free shuttle service provides quick access to all of the town’s ski lifts. It is also within walking distance of Coraline’s cabin elevator. It connects the town in one direction with the slopes of Cinque Laghi and the slopes above the next town down the mountain, Pinzolo. There is a parking lot in front and underground parking in the garage. This 4-star hotel is located in the shadow of the Brenta Dolomites and offers some of the best views in the resort, as well as 5-star food and service. With accommodation ranging from small double rooms to large family suites, this hotel is suitable for everyone, from single skiers to families and small groups.
If you’re looking for a central location within walking distance of ski lifts during the day and bars and restaurants at night, Hotel Kaminet is the perfect choice. This modern hotel offers accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis and the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of this lively mountain resort. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, and there are two ski lifts within walking distance.
Eating and drinking
Madonna di Campiglio is famous for the high quality of the food served in its mountain restaurant. With an excellent system of cabin lifts, some lifts are accessible to both skiers and non-skiers. These include Boch at the intermediate station of the Groste Cabin Lift and Stoppani at the top of the Groste Cabin Lift. At the top of the Spinale Cabin lift, Chalet Fiat has a large self-service area (and some of the best chips in the area). Enjoy a very fine dining experience in our beautiful restaurant with stunning views of the Groste ski area across the valley. This restaurant serves gourmet and traditional cuisine at an altitude of 2,100 meters.
The lovely Ristorante Viviani is my favorite. The Pradalago cabin is located just below the top of the lift and features a large self-service area and a cozy restaurant. The restaurant’s weekly menu offers delicious traditional cuisine and panoramic views of the ski slopes below.
Cascina Zeledria on the Pradalago Hill above the Madonna di Campiglio
Tucked away on the lower slopes of the Pradalago ski area, right next to the Blue Course, the traditional Cascina Zeledria serves hearty traditional cuisine made with produce from its own farm. This restaurant is also accessible from the road, so there’s nothing stopping you from purchasing great cheeses and charcuterie from the farm stand.

Good time to get there: Trentino was once part of the Austrian Habsburg Empire and was a favorite retreat of Franz Josef’s wife Sissi. This legacy is celebrated every February with his week-long Habsburg Carnival. Locals dress in period costumes and re-enact the arrival of the royal party. The celebration concludes with a costume ball at the Hotel Des Alpes, the seat of the Habsburg court.
