Seven women have been murdered in Ireland this year, Women’s Aid data has revealed.

Since 1996, the organization has tracked the number of women who die from violent deaths each year.

Women’s Aid does so because “there is a need to increase public awareness of the signs, cues and patterns that lead to murder.”

Bruna Fonseca

Bruna Fonseca was the first woman to die in Ireland this year. He was found dead in a flat in Liberty Street, Cork. On New Year’s Day.

She is originally from Brazil and recently moved to Ireland to work as a cleaner.

Miller-Pacheco will go on trial for murder in the new year.

Maud Coffey

Gayla Ibram died in Limerick on April 4th.

On July 14, 38-year-old Deepa Dinamani was found dead in her home in Wilton, Cork.

Regin Rajan, 41, was arrested at the scene. He was later charged with murdering the mother of one.

Gardaí are treating the cause of death as a murder-suicide. Claire was strangled to death by her husband..

government priorities

in a statement to news talkthe Ministry of Justice said tackling violence against women remained a “priority” for Minister Helen McEntee and new funding had been allocated.

“The additional funding secured in the 2024 Budget will support the implementation of the Zero Tolerance Plan, including by enabling the creation of new agencies, and will help agencies meet urgent needs for services across the country. “It will be of great help to us,” the spokesperson said.

“To strengthen the law in this area and encourage more victims to come forward, Minister McEntee has introduced legislation to create new single offenses of non-fatal strangulation and stalking.

“The Criminal Justice (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill signed by the President in July also increases the maximum sentence for assault causing bodily harm from five to 10 years.”

According to the United Nations Global Survey on Homicide, 137 women are murdered by their partners or family members every day around the world.
