Norway will send two F-16 fighter jets to Denmark to help train Ukrainian pilots on US-made aircraft, Reuters reported on January 3, citing Norwegian Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gramm. They reported that they would be dispatched.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the F-16 is expected to strengthen the Ukrainian Air Force in the war against Russia and become Ukraine’s main fighter aircraft.
In his speech, Mr. Gram said that Norway has already sent 10 instructors to Denmark to help train Ukrainian pilots. By sending jets and instructors, Norway joins countries such as Denmark and the Netherlands that have pledged to help train Ukrainian pilots.
According to the minister, the Norwegian Air Force has replaced its F-16s with fifth-generation F-35 fighters. Norway has announced that it will join Denmark, the Netherlands and others in donating aircraft in 2023.
On December 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy Said The Dutch government plans to deliver 18 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. The French Ministry of Defense announced in December that France would participate in training Ukrainian pilots for Western multi-role fighter jets in early 2024.
