🇫🇮 Finland: Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2024 participants revealed

Finnish national broadcaster Ale has announced the participants of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2024.

The seven participants of Uden Mushkiin Kirpile (UMK) 2024 were revealed this evening. In a change from previous years, the performers were revealed live with commentary in Finnish, Swedish and English on Yle TV 1, YLE Arena and Youtube. The unveiling was hosted by Pirvi Hamalainen, Vivi Punpanen and Benjamin Peltonen, who are also the hosts of UMK 2024’s Grand Channel.

The artists are:

  • Cyan Kicks – “Dancing with Demons”
  • Sex Mane – “Mania”
  • Sarah Siipola – “Pascana” (shit)
  • Jesse Merkin – “Glow”
  • Windows95Man – “No rules”
  • Sini Sabotage – “Quoli Mua” (Peel Me)
  • Michael Gabriel x Nubre – “Vox Populi”

Seven entries will be released every weekday at midnight EET from January 11th to January 19th. The release schedule is as follows:

  • January 11th – Cyan Kicks
  • January 12 – Sex Mane
  • January 15th – Sara Cipolla
  • January 16th – Jesse Mirkin
  • January 17th – Windows95Man
  • January 18th – Sini sabotage
  • January 19th – Michael Gabriel x Nuburu

Tapio Hakanen, chairman of the UMK jury, commented:

“Expectations for UMK continue to grow year after year, and this time we have been able to select some truly top-notch artists with unique voices and representing a variety of genres. On deck are rock, pop, rap, indie and more. , dance in Finnish and English. This year’s roster includes established, award-winning artists as well as newcomers who are just starting to make a name for themselves. In fact, one of the contestants We’re debuting our first single here at UMK.”

“If you look at how music has evolved in Finland and around the world, fast tempo seems to be the name of the game, and this is certainly reflected in this year’s entries. I believe this will be the most energetic UMK ever!”

The 2024 edition of UMK will be held on February 10th at the Nokia Arena in Tampere. The 13,455-capacity Nokia Arena is Finland’s largest indoor arena and the largest venue to date to have hosted UMK.

Kariya represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with “Cha Cha Cha”. He won Semi-Final 1 with 177 TV voting points. In the grand final, Karja’s total of 526 points (376 TV voting points, 150 jury points) placed him in second place, giving Finland the second-best result ever.

Finland to participate in Eurovision Song Contest

Finland first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961, joining Spain and Yugoslavia. Finland finished last in this contest 10 times and received “invalid points” three times. Finland won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006. Rhodey represented his country in Athens, scoring a then-record total of 292 points with the song “Hard Rock Hallelujah.”
