Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen said on January 25 that Russia is trying to destabilize Finland by sending people, including criminals and war criminals, to the Finish border.
The Finnish government does not know what arrangements these people had with Russian officials, but told Finnish refugee authorities that had they not crossed the border, Russia would have sent them into war with Ukraine. Some people, she said.
“So if Russia allows these people to fight in Ukraine, they can fight elsewhere,” the minister said.
Moscow is believed to be using Russians seeking asylum in Finland for espionage and sabotage.

All borders with Russia are currently closed, but the security situation remains serious, he said, with 15 migrants crossing the land border with Finland in the last week alone.
Finland has started building a border fence, but it is impossible to cover all 1,300 kilometers, she said. The country is also working on new laws to address border issues.
Finland closed all checkpoints along its border with Russia on November 30, in response to a significant increase in the number of illegal third-country nationals seeking asylum at the border, with the help of Russian border guards. Closed.
