belfast songwriter andy white commemorates the release of his first spoken word album Good luck, I hope you succeedwill begin a tour across the UK and Ireland on January 5th, the project’s release date.

On his upcoming project, White takes inspiration from hip-hop to deliver songs that oscillate between the political and the personal.

Before releasing his debut album, Rave on Andy White, the musician was a performance poet who read poetry and gigged next to a drum machine.

In writing his latest project, the artists went back to his roots, filtering everything through his songwriting and recording experiences.

“In the previous release, This garden is only temporary.I started with poetry,” says White.

“You can hear it on ‘Another Sunny Day’ and ‘Everything’s Turning White,’ but those songs, and ultimately the album, went their separate ways.

“When I finished it, there was one instrumental track that I was looking for lyrics for, and that was ‘Bass Priority.’ When the word came, it was a spoken word story about colonization. I was sitting in the ancient land thinking about what happened in Ireland and the continent now called Australia.

“I read Adam Bradley’s Book of Rhymes, listened to Howl, and saw a reading of Kerouac’s On the Road. Just like I did when I was 20, Gil Scott… -I played Heron and Bob Dylan records at high volume.

“I wrote lyrics in notebooks and on my phone and improvised rhymes on the microphone. I was playing bass like I was a teenager. I was talking to Belfast, emailing friends in Canada, I was watching a clown show about British politics while checking Patti Smith’s Instagram.

“Walk 30 minutes a day unaccompanied. Good luck, I hope you succeed.”

White has previously written articles such as: peter Gabriel, Alison Russell and liam Oh maon rai, I recorded it as billy bragg and Sinead O’Connor.

Last November, he released a song called “It’s Time for Love” about the ongoing conflict in Gaza, saying, “There’s a humanitarian disaster happening right now. It’s time for love.” I couldn’t help but write this song. ”
