FC Augsburg announced their sixth winter departure on Wednesday night.
Just over a year after signing with Fuggerstätter, Croatian full-back David Colina is heading north to Denmark on a six-month loan deal with Vejle BK. Augsburg announced on Wednesday night that the 23-year-old has departed to join the Denmark national team’s training camp in Turkey. Colina played seven Bundesliga games for Augsburg in the second half of last season after joining from Hajduk Split.
He scored a goal off the bench in his debut for the club, but did not make much of an impact after that. FCA trainer Enrico Maassen then used him in late-inning relief for six more innings. Colina has never started in the Bundesliga. This year, he started in Augsburg’s opening cup game against SpVgg-Unterhaching (he was pulled out midway through the first half), but did not appear on the pitch after that.
Augsburg had an interesting January transfer window under the direction of new sporting director Marinko Jurendić. Six players were left off the roster, with no new additions. Masaya Okugawa (Hamburger SV), Nathanael Mbuku, and Irvin Cardona (both from AS Saint-Etienne) have been transferred on loan. Japhet Tanganga’s loan was terminated prematurely and youngster Aaron Zenter moved to SC Paderborn.
“It has not been easy for David to get playing time in recent months in his usual position of left-back, where we are well placed,” Djulendić said in a statement following Colina’s departure. , stated that “David will be working with David during his loan period to Vejle.” His former youth coach knows him well and will give him plenty of match practice.”
