Six-time major champion Boris Becker has announced that he will step down as coach of Denmark’s world No. 7 Holger Ruhn with immediate effect, citing “personal and professional responsibilities”.
Becker returned to the tennis circuit last October as Luhn’s coach, and Luhn competed in the eight-a-side ATP Finals in Turin, where his debut at the final championship of the season ended in the group stage.
“We started this partnership with the original goal of making it to the ATP Finals at the end of last year, but in order to make this a success I need to commit to Holger even more than I can. I realized that,” Becker wrote in a social media post on Tuesday.
“Due to professional and personal commitments, I am unable to give Holger what he needs at the moment. I wish him nothing but the best and I will always be his biggest fan. I intend to continue and I am truly grateful for this journey together.”

Becker, 56, was released from a British prison in December 2022 after serving eight months of a two-and-a-half year sentence for hiding financial assets after declaring bankruptcy.
The three-time Wimbledon champion, who previously coached Novak Djokovic from 2013 to 2016, is currently banned from entering the UK.
