Colonel Kittu remembered in Denmark

Earlier this week, Danish Tamils marked the 31st anniversary of the death of Sathasivam Krishnakumar, also known as Colonel Kittu. Colonel Kittu and nine other LTTE cadres committed suicide after being surrounded by Indian Navy warships in 1993.

The other nine officers who died along with Colonel Kitts are:

– Lieutenant Colonel Kuttisiri: Rasiah Sri Ganesan, from Suthumarai, Jaffna.
– Sea Tiger Captain Jeeva: Nadarajah Mark Jeyarajah, from Pashaiyoor, Jaffna.
– Sea Tiger Captain Gunaseelan: Segun Cruz Michael Jiba of Maniam Thotam, Jaffna
– Major Mallaravan (Velan): Suntharalingam Suntaravel from Vyapalimorai, Point Pedro.
– Captain Sea Tiger Rozan: Ratnalingam Arunarajah from Nallur, Jaffna.
– Captain Sea Tiger Nayagam: Sivalingam Seharan from Polikandi, Point Pedro.
– Lieutenant Seetiger Tuyavan: Mahalingam Jeyalingam from Kandy Road, Jaffna.
– Lieutenant Seetiger Amusan: Aloysius Johnson, from Navansurai, Jaffna.
– Lieutenant Seetiger Nararasan: Sivagunanasundaram Ramesh from Kolombhurai, Jaffna.

At the event, the Tamil Eelam flag was hoisted, flowers were laid and candles were lit to commemorate Colonel Kittu’s sacrifice. Commemorative ceremonies were held in Kerning and Kolbeck, Denmark, on Sunday. The ceremony ended with the inspirational slogan of a Tamil mantra.Tamizarin Takam Tamil Eelam Tayakam”.

Colonel Kittu rose to prominence as the LTTE’s Jaffna commander from 1985 to 1987 and was based in the Padvankarai area during the first phase of the armed conflict. He was later appointed as the LTTE’s international secretary general in London and was returning from the UK when his ship was seized.

“The LTTE’s former Jaffna commander spoke to LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran to explain the latest peace plan put together with the help of some European countries to find a solution to Sri Lanka’s ethnic crisis. We were planning to meet,” the source said. LTTE statement released after his death.

“Mr. Kittu briefed the naval officials who surrounded him, but they rejected his explanation and took the LTTE ships to the shore by force. Following this action by the Indian Navy, Kittu and Nine of his companions committed suicide to avoid being captured by the Indian government.
