Cork-born Bumby Thug will represent Ireland at this year’s Eurovision with the song ‘Doomsday Blue’.
The artist, who hails from Macroom on the Isle of Cork, will head to Malmö, Sweden in May to represent Ireland at the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, qualifying for the Grand Final on May 11th. It’s planned.
Immediately after the show, Bumbee Thug said: “I don’t know how I feel – it’s an incredible feeling! I’m speechless… As a lyricist you would think there would be more to say, but I’m speechless – I’m very excited and I promise to do you proud.”
The performer has already amassed more than 45,000 monthly listeners through his unique, self-styled “Ouija pop.”
Known for their incredible live performances, Bumbee was recently spotted performing at a sold-out Download Festival debut.
Bumby is also a prolific songwriter, with music written for other artists in a variety of genres (Cachette, Kid Brunswick, Fabitch, Fika, etc.) as well as some of the UK’s biggest new generation hits (Dear Goth, Petri Call, 4 a.m.) and will be included in Just Like That, HBO’s Sex and the City reboot.
Bumby saw off competition from five other finalists who were hoping to take Ireland to the Eurovision final for the first time in four years on a special edition of the Late Late Show.
Bambi Thug has been voted to represent Ireland at the next Eurovision event in Sweden.
Erica Cody, Ailsha, Jeyello L, Isabella Carney, Bumbie Thug and Next In Line courted the public on Friday night’s Late Late Show in hopes of making it to Malmö.
It was one of the most eclectic combinations of songs, but it was Bumbee who secured the people’s vote.
