After watching the Soca Warriors play at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Danish-born Marc Ganjia has had the opportunity to train with the TT Men’s Senior Soccer Team.
Ganjia, 26, is eligible to play in TT through his father.
Ganjia, a striker for Danish football’s fifth division side Darm IF, spoke to the media during a Soca Warriors training session at the Larry Gomez Stadium in Malabar, Arima yesterday. TT is preparing for the Conmebol Copa America qualifier against Canada on March 23rd in Frisco, Texas.
“This is a huge opportunity and I hope I can be a part of it,” Ganzia said. “It’s a big step for this country if we can qualify for the (2026) World Cup and then the summer (Copa tournament). We have big games coming up in Canada, so I want to see if we can get through. I’m happy to have you.”
Ganjia has visited TT before.
“This is probably my fifth time here. My dad has a lot of family here, so he’s been here a few times.”
He has fond memories of Soca Warriors. “I also remember the 2006 World Cup and the (English) Premier League with (TT footballers) Dwight Yorke, Kenwyne Jones and players like that.”
Gangia made the decision to play in TT 10 years ago, but the process took a long time.
“It started about 10 years ago and it’s been a long process with passports and everything like that.”
Things have calmed down for the training camp, and he said, “The climate is hotter than in Denmark, so it’s going to be tough getting used to, but the players have been kind and considerate to me, so things are going well.” So far so good. ”
