Danish rowers won the Margs Mag at this year’s Augusta Picnic Regatta by competing in a mixed crew on the St Isles skiff.
Sally Ward, Anne and Ted Kirkbride, Peter Kovesi and coxswain David Cliffe successfully fended off all-male crews from Royal Bay Yacht Club and Augusta Rowers, and the team parlayed their success into sailing to Scotland’s Nairns.・He credits Coach Ward, who used to play at the Skiff Club, for his success.
The regatta started at 8am on January 27th and featured a 3.5km race against the tide from the Turner Street Pier to the Augusta Yacht Club, followed by a series of 250m short course races.
Denmark’s crew won the men’s race, placed third in the veteran and mixed crew races, and fifth in the women’s race, achieving good results overall.
After a great morning on the water with an afternoon prize-giving and a sea hut, the group is looking forward to their next big challenge: Steamers Run in Victoria.
The marathon row will see 10 Danish rowers undertake a 100km in-house row across the Gippsland Lakes network from Sale to Lake Entrance in a rented Geelong skiff.
