On Thursday, he and Becca’s cousin Mark, who is engaged to RTÉ star Doirien Garrihy, shared a pre-departure photo taken at home before heading to the airport.
The couple, who married last summer after four years of dating, grinned for the cameras as they stood among a sea of suitcases with their dog Cali in tow.
The pair captioned their joint post: “Let the adventure begin… Chicago and a snowstorm with a high of -16 degrees await!”
Celebrities took to the comments section to wish the newlyweds good luck on their journey, including Brian O’Driscoll, who teased his former teammate by writing: “Good luck dreamboat.”

Doirien Garihy added: “Good luck to everyone,” while Dave’s brother Rob wrote: “Very exciting.”
Becca then took to her Instagram Stories to share a video of her dog in a pet carrier ahead of her transatlantic flight.
“I’m fragile after this,” she began, adding heartbreak and crying emojis.
“My little baby is starting her journey! Keep telling yourself it’s worth it for her.”
The yoga teacher also thanked her followers for their well-wishes before sharing a sweet sign she received from her late father, who passed away 10 years ago.
She posted a photo of an Aer Lingus truck with the words “You’re going to love Chicago” written on the side, and added, “This morning while I was waiting to board a flight to Portugal for my wedding, this… Look at this as a small reassuring sign from your father.
“I love small signs, especially during times of big change,” she added.
Dave announced his departure from Leinster Rugby in October, writing:
“It was a disappointing end to the season for the team, but it was still a great journey and I am grateful. I am also grateful to the class of players I had the opportunity to play with. I would like to thank the Leinster and Irish fans. Thank you everyone for your continued support. I look forward to the next chapter.”
