February 2 – Nordic neighbors Denmark and Sweden announce their bids for the 2029 Women’s Euro, with regional partner Norway eliminated.
On Thursday, the Nordic pair revealed they would like to co-host the continental final in five years’ time.
Last year, bids by four Nordic countries including Norway and Finland failed to win the right to host the 2025 Games in a four-horse race with Switzerland, France and Poland. Switzerland won the second vote.
A report on the unsuccessful Nordic bid found that “if only two countries stand as hosts, the chances of winning next time are much higher”. Logistics, avoidance of long-distance travel, equipment and increased focus on sustainability, even in football, will be key arguments for this. ”
UEFA has not yet started the bidding process and the bidding criteria remain unclear. Denmark hosted the tournament in 1991 and Sweden hosted Euro 2013. Norway’s conspicuous absence suggested once again that the Nordic bloc was not united, with the NFF understood to have been unhappy with the blunt approach of both Sweden and Denmark.
