Denmark announced the Green Fuels Alliance India (GFAI) initiative, with the aim of strengthening cooperative efforts between the two countries in the field of sustainable energy solutions and advancing the joint global goal towards carbon neutrality.
This new partnership, led by the Embassy of Denmark and the Consulate General of Denmark in India, will advance the green fuel sector, including green hydrogen, by fostering innovation, cooperation and partnership between Danish industry and Danish industry. GFAI’s main objective is to foster sustainable energy growth in India by establishing an ecosystem that fosters collaboration between companies, government agencies, research institutes and financial players from both the Indian and Danish sectors. .
Nine pioneering Danish organizations have already joined the GFAI initiative as founding members, including Maersk, Topsoe, Umwelt Energy, Mash Makes, European Sustainable Solutions, Novozymes, Danfoss, Brdr, Christensen and Hydrogen Denmark. Meanwhile, GFAI’s advisory board members include the Indian Hydrogen Alliance, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras Energy Consortium, the Danish Energy Agency, and the State of Green.
GFAI’s announcement comes at an opportune time in India’s history, with India making a major push towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2070. Meanwhile, Denmark topped the global climate performance rankings in 2024 and is on track to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
GFAI is a demonstration of activities under the Green Strategic Partnership (GSP) signed in 2020 between India and Denmark, which aims to achieve the partner countries’ ambitious climate goals.
