Denmark begins training F-16 pilots for Ukraine

Denmark begins training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets donated by Norway, as allies work to provide Ukraine with a modern air force to defend against the ongoing Russian invasion. The Norwegian Ministry of Defense announced on January 3, 2024.

Ukrainian technicians for F-16 fighter jets are also being trained in Denmark, the United States and Belgium.

The Ukrainian pilots are veterans with experience flying fighter jets of less advanced design. The trainees recently completed a training program with the Royal Air Force that began in August as part of the Air Force Capability Coalition. Ukraine is expected to receive F-16 aircraft from the NATO ally as early as spring 2024, according to Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III.
