Denmark announced on Thursday it would join the Anglo-American coalition conducting airstrikes against Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, who are behind a recent spate of attacks on ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthis say their attacks are in support of Palestinians in the Israeli-Hamas war in Gaza.
Washington and London have launched a series of attacks on Houthi strongholds to end attacks that are causing shipping lines to bypass the Red Sea and significantly increase travel times and costs.
“We have accepted Denmark’s request to join the coalition,” Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen told reporters.
He said Denmark would send officers from its staff to participate in planned operations.

The Scandinavian country previously announced it would send a frigate to the region, but it is home to shipping giant Maersk, which has rerouted its ships away from the Red Sea.
In December, the Pentagon announced that 20 countries had joined a Washington-led coalition to protect critical shipping lanes.
