COPENHAGEN, Jan. 13 — A terrorist plot foiled by Danish police and intelligence services in December had links to the Islamist movement Hamas, Danish police said yesterday.

Danish prosecutor Anders Larsson confirmed that the case had “a link to Hamas,” Danish police told AFP in an email.

Yesterday, prosecutors gave their arguments at Denmark’s Eastern High Court. However, the case will be heard in private and no other details were disclosed in the statement.

Police announced on December 14 that they had arrested three people in Denmark on suspicion of planning a “terrorist” attack, but gave no other details.

A total of seven people are currently suspected of being involved.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on December 14 that Danish security forces “thwarted an attack aimed at killing innocent civilians on European soil.”

“The terrorist organization Hamas is working relentlessly and aggressively to expand its deadly operations into Europe, thereby posing a threat to the internal security of these countries,” Prime Minister Netanyahu said.

Denmark’s Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said yesterday that the alleged ties to Hamas “confirm that the threat to Denmark is serious, but we are fortunate that we have strong police and intelligence services that will protect us.” “I do my best to protect it every day.”
