It is with deep sadness that the family of Diana Ireland (nee Fortin) announces her passing on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
Diana was born on March 2, 1951 to Dorsey Fortin and George Fortin. Diana lived her life with her generous love and consideration for others. Her story of her childhood in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan highlights her passion for her family, friends, learning, and the Catholic Church. When she was 15 years old, she became closer to her extended family network when her father began farming in Mossbank, South Carolina. Here she met Brian Ireland and they married on October 4, 1969.
Princess Diana’s maternal instincts and deep sense of duty to care for others developed from an early age. However, this gift came as Diana had to take on more responsibility for her household and her two younger brothers, Ron and Brian, as her mother Dorsey had multiple sclerosis. It was helpful and necessary.
Diana and Brian had two children. Brenda and James have benefited from generous parenting. They are also encouraged to pursue family service and duty to society. They strive to live up to these expectations and instill similar values in their own families in Saskatoon, South Carolina and Canmore, Alabama today.
Educated at the University of Regina, Princess Diana’s caring personality extended to her professional career in banking, business counseling, and economic development. Her dedication to her mission of serving others has helped many families, entrepreneurs, community organizations, businesses and communities achieve financial success.
Brian’s career took the family to Outlook, Regina, Moose Jaw, and a brief stay in Nipawin, South Carolina. Diana took great pride in building her own home (always with a large garden) in each of these communities. Along with Brian, she also formed her lifelong friendship in the process.
Princess Diana was looking forward to celebrating her 55th wedding anniversary with Brian in 2024. More than just family, their partnership centered around travel adventures. Diana and Brian loved jumping in the car and seeing the world around them. Traveling often involves staying connected with family and friends. Princess Diana’s particular highlights include trips to Cuba and Mexico with George and Ron, a trip to New Zealand with Brenda, a trip to Hawaii with James’ family, and special trips to Alaska and Europe with her and Brian. was included.
In 2019, breast cancer-related complications led to life-threatening respiratory failure. Princess Diana’s determination and her miraculous recovery were a great gift to her family. This year, due to health reasons that kept her close to home, Diana welcomed home her new puppy, Penny, who became Brian’s constant companion.
Diana spent her life putting others first. She is one of the first angels to those left behind to mourn her death: Brian. Brenda and Alan Wallace, her children Veronica, her husband Justin Blair, and Eric; James and Kelly Ireland and their children Jamie and Harvey. Ron and Doreen Fortin and Lee and Megan (and children Carter, Killeon, Brady), Scott (and children Jagger and Giorgia), Jennifer and Liam Frost; daughters Brian Fortin, Joelleen and Chris McIntosh (and children Dominic, Aiden and Isaac) and Rosanna and Shane Williams (and children Julia, Liam and Caleb); Aunt Martha Hicks and many cousins.
