Discover Airlines expands network to Norway and Finland

Must read

Discover Airlines is expanding its route network with the addition of two new flights, Alta in Norway and Kittilä in Finland, as part of its winter 2024/25 schedule.

This expansion is notable as it marks a departure from the airline’s typical focus on sunny southern paradises, offering travelers a unique opportunity to experience the Far North.

In addition, Discover Airlines has already scheduled twice-weekly flights to Evenes, Norway, this summer.

Meeting demand: moving north

The decision to add Alta and Kittila to its roster is a direct response to the growing demand from both end customers and tour operators for a direct connection to these pristine Arctic regions.

With Discover Airlines seamlessly integrated into the Lufthansa network in Frankfurt, travelers from across Europe can now access these two destinations with unparalleled ease and convenience.

Alta, Norway: Chasing the Northern Lights

Discover Airlines will operate direct flights from Frankfurt to Alta Airport (ALF) in northern Norway every Thursday and Sunday from December 16, 2024 to March 27, 2025.

This 3.5-hour journey promises to be a special experience as Discover Airlines is the only airline offering direct flights from Germany to Alta.

Known as the “City of the Northern Lights”, Alta is located approximately 230 kilometers from the North Cape and dazzles visitors with its celestial displays.

The sun doesn’t rise from late November until mid-January, creating perfect conditions for viewing the mesmerizing Northern Lights.

This arctic haven serves as a gateway to countless adventures, including dog sledding, aurora safaris, ski expeditions, igloo hotel stays, whale watching, ice fishing, and more.

Kittila, Finland: a winter tourist’s dream

From December 20, 2024 to March 28, 2025, Discover Airlines will transport travelers from Frankfurt to Kittilä Airport (KTT) every Friday, showcasing the wonders of Finnish Lapland.

This 3.5-hour flight opens the door to an area located approximately 200 kilometers from the Arctic Circle, famous as one of Finland’s top tourist destinations.

Home to the acclaimed Levi winter sports area, Kittila has 43 slopes and has been awarded the title of Finland’s best ski resort many times.

Beyond the thrill of winter sports, visitors can immerse themselves in local culture, including reindeer and dog sled safaris, snowshoe hiking, and a vibrant art scene shaped by local talent.

Discover Airlines’ strategic expansion into Alta and Kittilä underscores the airline’s commitment to offering travelers a diverse experience.

Direct flights and integration into the company’s Lufthansa network not only facilitate access to these arctic gems, but also ensure an unparalleled journey to the heart of the winter wonderland.
