Duchess Kate’s meeting with European queens was a big hit

Must read

Footage of the royal family filmed during their 2022 visit to Denmark has resurfaced on social media site TikTok, with a meeting between the Crown Princess of Wales and two European queens the subject of a new hit viral video.

During her 12 years as a member of the British royal family since marrying Prince William in 2011, Kate has been photographed with many of the world’s royal families.

In 2022, the Princess made a rare solo overseas visit to Denmark, attending events related to early childhood development, a major focus of her profession.

During the day-long event in Copenhagen, Kate was greeted by Denmark’s two senior royals, Queen Margrethe II and Crown Princess Mary (Europe’s newest queen as of January 14, 2024).

Margrethe made headlines around the world on New Year’s Eve 2023 when she suddenly announced her abdication in her annual New Year’s message to the nation. Her Queendom reigned for 52 years, and after Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022, she became Europe’s only queen to rule in her own right.

On January 14, Margrethe abdicated and the throne was passed to her eldest son, Crown Prince Frederik (currently King Frederik X). His wife, Australian-born Mary, subsequently became his queen consort.

In February 2022, when she met Crown Princess Margrethe and Crown Princess Maria at Christian IX Palace in Copenhagen, Duchess Kate participated in a photo call for the waiting press.

Footage of the photocall, uploaded to TikTok by user royalsforlife1 on January 19, has gone viral, garnering more than 900,000 views on the social media site so far.

The video also includes footage of Kate and Mary attending early joint events in the city.

The two royals have been photographed together many times, most notably at a reception at Buckingham Palace ahead of Charles III’s coronation in 2023.

As Crown Princess and Princess of Wales, Mary and Kate, Duchess of Wales, had equal status at the time as wives of the heir to the throne. Mary is now Queen, she is superior to Kate, and at her next formal meeting, the princess is expected to be polite to her.

The viral video received more than 29,000 likes and 160 comments, many of which were full of praise for Kate and the Danish royal family.

“Mary and Kate could be sisters,” one TikTok user wrote.

“Kate is so cute,” another posted, adding: “Our Mary looks amazing. She’s the perfect queen. We Australians love her so much. Denmark couldn’t have had her.” I’m so lucky. Kate is also amazing.”

Several other users also highlighted a moment in the clip dubbed the “Princess Shuffle.” At that moment, Duchess Kate moved closer to Queen Margrethe, quickly changing the position of her feet to take a photo of her, which was quickly picked up by fans and attracted the attention of social media posts and clips.
