Elisa has acquired the fiber network built by Elenia and continues to strengthen its fiber network in central Finland, the Tampere region and northern Ostrobothnia. The transaction is expected to become effective on January 31, 2023.
Elenia’s fiber optic network is currently available to around 8,000 households and small and medium-sized businesses in the cities of Akaa, Hämeenlinna, Jyväskylä, Kalajoki, Kangasala, Raukaa, Lempala, Nokia, Olivesi and Vyitasaari. Elisa will now be responsible for the maintenance and development of this fiber network. Business transactions require no action from the customer.
In recent years, Elisa has expanded its fiber network to many homes and businesses in central Finland, the Tampere region and Ostrobothnia, and Elisa’s fiber network already reaches approximately 200,000 premises.
Elenia began building a fiber network in 2019 to facilitate the provision of fast and reliable data connectivity in Finland. In connection with the construction of the power grid, the simultaneous construction of a fiber network in the Elenia network area provided a reasonable co-construction opportunity.
Elisa’s fiber-optic or cable modem-based high-speed connections are available in more than 1 million residential and commercial establishments in Finland, and you can check the availability of your address on the Elisa website. We are also continuing to invest in our 5G mobile network, with over 90% of Finns already living within Elisa’s 5G network coverage area.
