Finnish technology company Epec opens the new smart and environmentally friendly Epec Smart Factory 1 (ESF1) in Seinäjoki, Finland. The plant produces control units, displays, sensors, power distribution units, telematics units and more for the needs of a variety of mobile work machines and commercial vehicles. Additionally, Epec designs and develops systems and software tailored to the needs of machine builders.
This state-of-the-art factory is a significant investment for Epec and is in line with the company’s growth goals and responsible practices. Jyri Kylä-Kaila, Managing Director of Epec, explains: Technology changes are accelerating the digitalization and electrification of mobile machinery and vehicles. Epec’s products play a key role in enabling the development of more responsible mobile machinery and commercial vehicles. We offer solutions that integrate electronic and control systems to optimize machine efficiency and drive productivity while reducing emissions. Our products enable the path to zero-emission work machines. This plant provides a significant opportunity for our growth and the continued success of our customers. ”
ESF1 aims to be carbon neutral in operation and uses sustainable manufacturing processes. The 8,500 square meter factory incorporates energy-efficient solutions, including over 600 solar panels (210 MWh/year) to generate electricity and a geothermal system. Heat recovery is achieved through efficient needle heat exchangers, and aluminum grilles on the office walls significantly reduce the need for cooling energy. All electricity and heating energy is sourced from renewable sources.
The ESF1 project progressed according to the planned schedule. Epec moved its headquarters and production to a new facility at the end of 2023. Expanded, modern production facilities allow for optimization of manufacturing processes and improved material flow management. The factory will open on January 18, 2024.
