Last week, the artists, songs, and details of the 2024 Finland national team finals, “Uuden musiikin kilpailu 2024” (UMK24), were revealed.
The 14 members of the Aussievision team have scrutinized all seven entries, resulting in a complete ranking from the team.
Each song is ranked from 1st to 7th, and the points awarded for each position are as follows:

7. Sex Mane – “Mania” (49 points)
Highs: 8 points from Stephen and Fleur, 6 points from Mark.

6. Jesse Mirkin – “Glow” (60 points)
Highest score: 8 points from Laura; Liv🐎 and 6 points from Craig, Hugo, Emma and Dale

5. Michael Gabriel X Nubre – “Vox Populi” (64 points)
Highest points: 12 points for Mark, 8 points for Haley and Kiel.

”The long-awaited chorus! The refrain of “Vox Populi” could be this year’s “Cha Cha, Cha Cha Cha Cha.” There’s a punk sensibility to this that I’m drawn to. They have something to say and they say it well. The lyrics are sharp and clever. Let’s hope the music video’s spacesuit is retired for the live performance, because it threatens to take this great entrance into the land of horrible gimmicks. ” ~ Mark

3. Cyan Kicks – “Dancing with Demons” (107 points)

”In this very crowded field, my heavy rock-loving heart gave them a slight nod as the successor to Kálya waving the Finnish flag at Eurovision. “Dancing With Demons” is a punchy track with a brilliantly catchy chorus, and judging by the video, we can only imagine what they can create with their staging in Malmö.If the Finns want to do even better this year, artists like Sara and Sexmane might be a good choice, but Sian Kicks is a great addition to what EV fans have traditionally come to expect from Finland. So it ticked the box in terms of providing a solid rock number.” ~Kiell
”A great Finnish song that sensationally combines rock and electropop. There are too many songs in this her UMK lineup that feel overall annoying because of that, but this track has nuance and variation in intensity. Overall, it’s a sophisticated piece of work that also pays homage to Finland’s Eurovision rock heritage. An intense musical interlude showcases a spectacular Noah Kirel-style dance-off. Given my evangelical childhood, it feels a little sinful to love the song title “Dancing With Demons,” but honestly, who cares? It’s absolutely amazing. I’m really rooting for this to represent Finland, and it will be a worthy successor to “Cha Cha Cha.” ” ~ Sam
”I actually really love this. A rock band led by a girl is right in front of me. I love “Hurricane” and this band in general, and enjoy the Great Wall of Rock sound. This is very well made and really sophisticated for a lock. The video clip gives a glimpse of potential staging, and it looks like this girl’s UMK will win and he’ll be on his way to the big stage in May. ” ~ Haley
”This is really good pop rock. There’s a catchy chorus, strong rock instrumentation, and plenty of charisma from the lead singer. I saw a live performance at UMK a few years ago, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you can do with it on stage. 2. Sini Sabotage – “Quoli Mua” (112 points)

”I’ve been listening to it on repeat ever since it came out…it’s catchy and sassy, and I think it could be used in a lot of ways for staging and choreography. The key will be whether she can pull it off live and how the concept translates on stage. But this is definitely one of hers on my Spotify playlist. ” ~ Emma
”For me, this was easily the majority choice. I really love the bass, the piano, and the whole atmosphere. It sounds like something straight out of RuPaul’s Drag Race. It’s great, but I’m curious how it will sound live. It will definitely be on your Eurovision party playlist. ” ~ Fleur
“A 4/4 dance anthem that brings to mind mid-2000s club tracks. I love the piano solo part. It makes this song feel so unique! One of my favorites among this year’s very strong selections. It’s a personal favorite.” ~Laura
”There’s something more than a little bit of RuPaul’s Drag Race to this – but whereas most of the Drag Race songs at Eurovision tend to sound a bit like knock-offs, this is the kind of thing RuPaul did in her heyday. It sounds like the kind of thing they would have produced in real life. The sound of the piano breaking, the beats, the music videos… everything irritates me, what can I say.I love you” ~ Craig
”Sexy and cool, this song shares the same success as the likes of Doja Cat. The piano in the intro and bridge add welcome light and shadow, theatricality and warmth to a quality club track with a very fashionable ’90s vibe (in the chorus, Madison Avenue’s Don’t I feel like I could sing Call Me Baby). Shini also oozes star quality, which doesn’t hurt in the slightest. ” ~ Mark

”this is wonderful. After a few years of very stripped-down, minimal ballads being the trend at Eurovision, Pascana gives us a full-bodied power ballad with just the right level of raw emotion. Finnish sounds very good in this context and I’m sure Sara will express it well.Let’s hope this gets even better live and hopefully we win a ticket to Malmö and maybe another great result for Finland!” ~ Craig
