Finland may halt production of ammunition for the Ukrainian army

Must read

Defense companies producing ammunition for Ukraine could be shut down in Finland for two days because of the strike.

The strike is expected to take place at four factories in Nanmo involved in the production of ammunition and gunpowder, the Yale News Agency reported. The company’s CEO Raimo Herasmaki believes that the protests scheduled for February 1 and 2 could affect arms supplies to Ukraine.

“The shutdown and return to design capacity of the Viftavuori nitrocellulose production plant, which produces the powder, will take more than two days,” Herasmäki said.

Nammo also added that the factory does not directly supply ammunition to Ukraine, but the Finnish Defense Forces buys the ammunition and the exported weapons are sent to Ukraine. There are 450 employees at the Nanmo factory, and about 350 are expected to participate in the strike.

At the same time, the Finnish Ministry of Defense claims that the company’s suspension of operations will not affect the quantity or quality of deliveries to Ukraine.

Industrial unions have previously reportedly announced large-scale strikes affecting multiple industries. Approximately 60,000 people will take part in the nationwide action. The reason for the strike is the government’s labor market reform programme.
