Finland has announced that it will increase the daily minimum economic requirement for Schengen visas from 30 euros to 50 euros. This change will come into effect from January 1, 2024, and is part of new regulations introduced by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will particularly affect short-term visitors.
Finland’s new Schengen visa requirements: important details
From now on, tourists heading to Finland will be required to provide a daily bank account balance for each day of their stay in order to qualify for a Schengen visa. These changes, aimed at tightening immigration procedures, curbing visa overstays and preventing situations where tourists face financial constraints, are also a response to recent increases in the cost of living.
In addition to tightening financial requirements, Finland now requires Schengen visa applicants to provide proof of sponsorship or accommodation during their stay. This means that applicants can prove that they have financial security with the support of Finnish citizens or residents. The Sponsorship Certificate form allows nationals or residents to vouch for the financial support they are providing to visa applicants, ensuring accountability and transparency in financial arrangements.
A Schengen visa serves as an entry permit for temporary visits to various European countries within the Schengen area. Holding a Schengen visa grants travelers access to 23 of the 27 EU member states, along with Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
