With the movement of aligning Based on European Union Commission guidelines, Finland has banned the import of passenger cars registered in Russia from September 16, 2023. Finnish authorities currently have set a deadline for exporting passenger cars brought to Russia to be March 16, 2024. Countries before the ban took effect. However, the regulation excludes cars and diplomatic vehicles owned by EU nationals living permanently in Russia. Additionally, buses with a capacity of more than 10 people are still allowed to enter Finland.
Vehicles with Russian registration plates must be removed from Finland by a set deadline. The Finnish Auto Insurance Center will not issue new insurance policies for these vehicles with effect from March 16, 2024. Vehicle owners can purchase border transport insurance at the center’s office in Ruoholahadesti until the deadline by making an appointment in advance.
If an accident occurs with an uninsured vehicle, the driver will not receive compensation for personal injury. Nevertheless, the Auto Insurance Center will compensate for damage to others caused by an uninsured Russian car. The policy aims to reduce potential risks and ensure public safety on Finnish roads in a changing regulatory environment.
