A report from the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms the implementation of strict rules. These will definitely affect short-term travelers seeking Schengen visas.
Inside Finland’s new visa rules
Here’s the scoop. To qualify, travelers will have to prove higher financial ability, and the minimum requirement for the cost of their stay in Finland has been increased to 50 euros per day. This represents a significant increase of 20 euros from the previous benchmark and a staggering 66% jump. According to the Times of India, the reason for this adjustment is the rising cost of living in the country.
Now, why is this important? The Schengen visa acts as a golden ticket for individuals seeking short-term stays, allowing them to travel within the Schengen area. This is a region that includes a number of European countries, including 23 of the 27 EU member states, as well as friendly neighbors such as Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

All about funds, forms, and the impact on future travel
In parallel with the tightening of financial prerequisites, Finland has introduced a new sponsorship certificate or accommodation regime. Hosts will now need to complete a mandatory sponsorship form for visa applications. This measure aims to strengthen the transparency and accountability of financial arrangements for people seeking short-term stay in Finland.
The Schengen Area will expand from March onwards. Visa holders will also be able to visit two additional countries during their European trip: Bulgaria and Romania. According to a report in the Times of India, this will widen the travel options for Schengen visa holders.
For Indian nationals, the Schengen visa fee is set at 80 euros. However, there is a silver lining for little travelers, with children under the age of six being given a complete exemption. There is also a reduced rate of 40 euros for children from 6 to 12 years old, and there are provisions for families traveling with younger children.
These changes create a new landscape for travelers planning a Finnish escape.
