First OSS of 2.6GW US offshore wind project arrives in Denmark

Must read

The first of a total of three offshore substations (OSS) for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project has been delivered to Bladt Industries in Denmark, with further outfitting planned.

The first 880 MW OSS was shipped from Spain and manufactured by Tecade on behalf of Bladt Industries.

A consortium of strategic partners Blood Industries and Semco Maritime was awarded a turnkey contract by Dominion Energy Virginia in November 2021 for the Virginia Coast Offshore Wind Project.

The contract consists of three 880 MW OSS units that will form the backbone of the power infrastructure for the 2.6 GW offshore wind project.

The project scope of work includes design, engineering, procurement, manufacturing, and installation. Blood Industries will be responsible for the design, procurement and manufacture of the steel structures and jacket foundations, while Semco Maritime will manage the design, procurement and installation of the electrical equipment, emergency systems and inter-array cables.

The project is located approximately 33.5 nautical miles off the coast of Virginia Beach and was approved for construction and operation by the U.S. government in November 2023.

It will be equipped with 176 offshore wind turbines, each rated at 14MW, supplied by Siemens Gamesa.

DEME Offshore and Prysmian have been awarded a Balance of Plant (BoP) contract for installation services from Dominion Energy.

DEME Offshore was responsible for the transportation and installation of 176 monopile transition piece foundations, three marine substations, scour protection, export and supply and installation of the inter-array submarine cable system, while Prysmian was responsible for the supply and installation of the cables. I’ll be in charge. It works.

The 2.6GW offshore wind farm can power up to 660,000 homes while reducing carbon emissions by more than 2 million tonnes per year.
