The name and photo of a six-year-old boy found dead in a car in Ireland have been released for the first time.
Matthew Healy was found by police in a vehicle in the Rathmoylan area of Co Waterford early yesterday morning.
Officers arrested a woman in her 30s shortly afterward near the scene in Dunmore East, where she remains in custody.
Local reports said young Matthew lived in Ballygunner and attended nearby Faithleg National School.
He also played football for Park Rangers AFC’s Under 7s team and the club paid tribute to the young man today.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of one of our players this week,” the club said in a statement on Facebook.
“Matthew was a member of our U7 team and will be missed by his teammates and coaches. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time.”
A woman arrested in connection with Matthew’s death was also being treated.
Matthew’s body was taken to Waterford University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police officers preserved the scene and forensic tests, and the local coroner and state pathologist’s office were notified.
Irish police said the investigation was continuing and the outcome of the post-mortem examination would determine the direction of the investigation.
The Ministry of Education said the National Directorate of Educational Psychology is currently assisting Matthew’s school management and staff.
“When a tragic event occurs, NEPS can provide advice and support to teachers and other adults who interact with students on a daily basis and know them well.”
“NEPS can also work with teachers to identify students who need the most support and, if necessary, consider student needs and help develop procedures to support subsequent referrals. ”
