Queen Margrethe of Denmark recently surprised the world by abdicating in favor of her son, new King Frederik. Now, a week later, it has been announced that a television series centered around her life is currently in production.

Similar to the concept of the Netflix hit crownA new series detailing the life of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth Oh, no more (“By the Grace of God”) is being developed by Borgen manufacturer Sam Productions and Danish broadcaster TV2. According to the Guardian, the story will be set at Amalienborg Palace, the official residence of the royal family in Copenhagen, and will begin with Margrethe’s birth in 1940.

Producers said the show would “embrace the royal family, for better or worse” and tell the story of “a young girl and her family”. The script will reportedly be written from the perspective of palace staff as well as members of the royal family.

Margrethe’s family has been in the spotlight recently due to various dramas. Her abdication earlier this month made her the first Danish monarch to voluntarily step down from the throne in nearly 900 years. Her son Frederic’s subsequent installation came months after it was speculated that he had had an affair with Mexican socialite Genoveva Casanova. (Mr. Casanova issued a statement on Instagram calling the report “completely false” and “absolutely false.”)

Frederic’s promotion comes a year after his brother Joachim’s four children were stripped of their royal titles on January 1, 2023, and there were rumors of a feud within the family.

After Margrethe’s retirement, the country now had two queens, with Margrethe retaining her title and Frederick’s wife becoming Queen Mary. Their 18-year-old son Christian becomes Crown Prince and heir to the throne.

Oh, no more It has reportedly been in the works for the past 18 months. It is scheduled to be released next year, but international distribution has not yet been announced.
