Olympic champions France must beat arch-rivals Denmark 33-31 to win their fourth European men’s handball title at EHF EURO 2024 on Sunday 28th January at the LANXESS Arena in Cologne (Germany). Extra time was needed.
Denmark’s goalkeeper Emil Nielsen was named the best player of the match, but it was Ludovic Fabregas who turned the game in France’s favor with his excellent defense, scoring eight goals in ten attempts.
Mikel Hansen became the highest scorer in European Championship history with nine goals, but Denmark had to settle for silver, just as they did in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic final. Denmark, which has won the past three world championships, remains the favorite to win the Paris Olympics in six months’ time.
Sweden defeated hosts Germany 34-31 to secure third place and earn a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
