SINGAPORE — Supermarket chain Giant will absorb a 1% increase in Goods and Services Tax (GST) on 700 items from January 1 to June 30, 2024.

The company announced on Tuesday (December 26) that 700 essential items will be eligible across key categories including “perishables,” “personal care,” and “household essentials.”

“As one of Singapore’s leading value retailers, our top priority is to ensure essential products are available at affordable prices. We hope that combined with Giant’s continued initiatives such as senior citizen discounts, yu Rewards Club, and more, Singaporeans can continue to shop and enjoy their favorite essentials as it’s a new year,” said DFI, which operates Giant. said Yoop Mann, Managing Director, Singapore Foods, Retail Group.

DFI says these 700 essential products were carefully selected based on customer feedback and data.

These products include:

●Sweet corn Malaysia

●Meadows milk 1L

● Meadows Home Bathroom Tissue

●Meadows Home Laundry Liquid

●Meadows Assorted Biscuits

●Meadows canned tuna

●Meadows mayonnaise

●Meadows granulated sugar

●Meadows Shredded Mozzarella

●Meadows Ice Cream 1L

●Meadows pasta sauce

●Meadows Home Aluminum Foil

●Vitapet dry cat food

●Yu Pinking Raw Peanuts

Giant joins FairPrice Group, which announced a similar program in November. Home furniture retailer IKEA has also announced initiatives to absorb the GST rate hike.

Meanwhile, Giant’s 4% storewide discount for seniors, which it offers every Thursday, will continue throughout 2024.

Giant will also continue its “Lower Price That Last” campaign launched in 2020 “with the aim of providing Singaporeans with fresh, high quality and affordable essential grocery items”.
