His Holiness the Dalai Lama congratulates Finland’s next president, Alexander Stubb

Dharamshala, February 14: Buddhist guru His Holiness the Dalai Lama congratulated Finland’s newly elected president in a letter written on Wednesday. Former Prime Minister Alexander Stubb won Finland’s presidential election on Sunday.

The Buddhist leader’s letter acknowledged the warmth and acceptance he experienced during his visit to the country, and noted the genuine interest shown by Finns from diverse backgrounds. “It has been an honor to visit your beautiful country many times over the years. On such occasions, Finns from all walks of life can foster love and compassion, develop an awareness of the oneness of humanity, and encourage religious I am deeply grateful for the keen interest you have shown in what I have said about recognizing the importance of harmony between people,” the octogenarian leader wrote.

His message expressed deep concern for the plight of people enduring the scourge of violent conflicts around the world. “It is very sad that today many people in different parts of the world are suffering from violent conflicts.As a self-proclaimed campaigner for a world free of violence and weapons, I hope that the international community can resolve conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. We have aspired to make a concerted effort to solve the problems and contribute to creating a more peaceful and caring world.” The Nobel Prize winner is known for his unwavering commitment to peace and compassion.

In his concluding remarks, the Dalai Lama expressed his heartfelt wishes for the future of Finland under Stubbe’s leadership, saying, I wish you all success.”

Mr Stubb secured 51.6% of the vote, while his Green Party rival, former foreign minister Pekka Haavisto, received 48.4%. The victory was a significant moment for Stubb and his National United Party. At a press conference late Sunday after his victory, he expressed deep gratitude, calling his election victory “the greatest honor of my life.”

Alexander Stubbe will officially take office on March 1, replacing Sauli Niinistö as the next president. The role of Finland’s head of state is extremely important, serving as the supreme commander of the armed forces and being directly responsible for foreign and security policy.
