Crown Princess Mary will become Queen of Denmark when her husband, Crown Prince Frederik, becomes King and Head of State.
With her new title, Mary will go down in history as the first Australian-born queen of a European monarchy.

When will Princess Mary become Queen?
A ceremony will then be held in Copenhagen on Sunday, January 14, local time, in which Crown Prince Frederik will become King and Crown Princess Mary will become Queen.
This day marks the 52nd anniversary of Queen Margrethe’s accession to the throne in 1972 following the death of her father.
Tasmanian-born Queen Mary will ascend to the throne 23 years after she met Prince Frederick in a Sydney pub during the 2000 Olympics. The couple married in 2004 and have four children.

What happens at the inheritance ceremony?
Unlike, The change of monarch in Denmark, which took place last year when Charles III ascended the British throne, will take place in a simple declaration ceremony at the country’s power centers.
At around 2pm local time on Sunday (12am AEDT Monday) at Christiansborg Palace, Queen Margrethe will formally sign a declaration to abdicate the Danish throne.
This act immediately elevated Prince Frederick to the position of King of Denmark and head of state.
He assumed the title of Frederick X, Princess Mary was known as Queen Mary, and the heir apparent, his eldest son Christian, became Crown Prince of Denmark. The royal titles of the couple’s other three children will remain the same.
Denmark’s Royal Palace announced that Jane Stevens, Mary’s eldest sister and Christian godmother, will travel from Hobart to Copenhagen for the event.
At 3:00 pm local time (1:00 am AEDT), the new king will appear on the balcony of the palace, where Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will publicly declare Frederik’s succession to the throne.
He will then deliver his first speech as Denmark’s reigning monarch from the balcony.
